That is what God is working toward, and that is what will eventually come to pass. Notice that He didn't compare people to blades of grass or sands of the sea or dust in the wind. 5. From that one conversation with a person who was already prepared by another to expect and look for the Messiah, Jesus had entered into the harvest. ", 8A second angel followed and said, "Fallen! People plead from the pulpit, send out catchy emails, and beg from social media and still come up short. Print the message notes below, watch our example video, and gather your supplies. We already have seen part of this in Chapter 7 -- the great multitude which no man can number that come from every "tribe and nation and people and language" (Revelation 7:9 NIV) in response to the preaching of these 144,000. It takes four years of college and two years of postgraduate work to deny that! No lie was found in their mouths; they are blameless. You can read that in Zechariah 14. One of the most significant challenges every church faces is the need for volunteers. Palestine is overrun. So, there has been a good harvest right here in Los Alamos, and I believe that there are still plenty of people here ready to embrace the gospel, people who are looking for something better, like the woman at the well. It makes you wonder how many times we have missed the opportunity to share the gospel with someone who was ready to hear it because we did not see them in the way that Jesus saw the Samaritan woman. Of course, God would ultimately be behind this preparation. We saw in Chapter 13 how the Antichrist exerts economic control of the whole world. The phrase is, "they did not defile themselves with women." The disciples didn’t see the harvest, so they didn’t bother going after it. For the day of the Lord is near in the valley of decision. Jewish travelers generally avoided Samaria because it was the heart of the old northern kingdom that had been made up of the ten tribes that split off from Judea after Solomon's reign. Then the promise comes from the voice of the Spirit himself. Especially when the signs are that the time is getting shorter to reap the harvest. We hear later in Acts that over 3000 were added to the Church that day. At the Last Supper, the Lord himself said, "I am the true vine and you are the branches" (John 15:5a NIV), speaking of his Jewish disciples. This means that they were on earth, in Jerusalem, not in heaven. But, over the years, hundreds of people have come to the Lord through the workers sent into this field from the Christian Church, and we are not the only church in town. (John 4:35). He ended up staying there for two days, and over that time many more Samaritans came to accept Jesus as the Savior of the World. This sermon is based on Matthew 9:35-10:11 where Jesus talks about the plentiful harvest ready for those who are sharing Good News. He himself had given (this to) his disciples in Matthew 13, in the parable of the wheat and the weeds (Matthew 13:24-30, 13:36-43). When we take the Lord's Supper, wine symbolizes the blood of Christ for us. The angels announce that the time of harvest has come, and the words of Jesus in Matthew 13 will be literally fulfilled. The "seed" of God's word has already been planted, and it has been growing in their lives, and all they need is for someone to enter into the harvest and share with them that Jesus really is the Savior of the Word; that God loves them. Title: Part 3 of the Preparing for the Harvest Series – The Harvest is Ready. 3. This seems to be the situation here. All right, now, the thing is this, the Sermon on the Mount, what is it? A sermon preached at the Baptist Tabernacle of Los Angeles Lord’s Day Evening, August 7, 2011 “Say not ye, There are yet four months, and then cometh harvest? They are ripe for harvest" (John 4:35 NIV). These are those who did not defile themselves with women, for they kept themselves pure. These are not chauvinists; they are celibates. (Revelation 14:14-16 NIV). She came to the well to draw water in the middle of the day. Jesus led her, word by word, to talk about what she needed: "the gift of God" (that's in verse 10). They can learn the song of the redeemed because they know themselves what redemption means. How none of us are right with God, but that He desires to forgive us and draw us into His family. It was there, at Jacob's well, where Jesus ended up speaking to a woman who was not only a Samaritan, but whose life choices lay outside of God's directives. The Fields Ready to Harvest. Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into His harvest. When Jesus and His disciples arrived in Sychar, a Samaritan city that was about 32 miles north of Jerusalem, the disciples went into the city to buy food while Jesus remained outside of the city by Jacob's well. We must ask, who is this one seated on the cloud "like a son of man," wearing a victor's crown and holding a sickle in his hand? But this is clearly a grape harvest, a vintage harvest. In Luke's gospel, it was just before they were sent to preach in the villages of Galilee that Jesus told them, "The harvest is plentiful, but the workers are few; therefore beseech the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into His harvest." Are you with me so far? The same is true in bringing men to Jesus. Now, watch this. This sermon does not have any notes. The opening sentence tells us they were "standing on Mount Zion" -- the temple mount in Jerusalem. Fallen is Babylon the Great, which made all the nations drink the maddening wine of her adulteries." Jesus says the fields are ripe for harvest (John 4:35) – are you ready for the Harvest? A second angel now cries out in Verse 8: A second angel followed and said, "Fallen! The prophet Joel describes it in vivid language. 3And they sang a new song before the throne and before the four living creatures and the elders. It doesn’t matter how wicked this generation becomes. Pray to the Lord of the harvest to send more workers into the harvest field.” God has three choices: First, he can let rebellion go on forever and never judge it. Worship him who made the heavens, the earth, the sea and the springs of water. He was single, and he devoted his life to the Lord as an unmarried man. Then I heard a voice from heaven says, "Write: Blessed are the dead who die in the Lord from now on." Therefore, love me, and you will find the fulfillment your heart is looking for." He knew it was not the will of God for him to be married. This is the first mention in Revelation of "Babylon the Great." I'm not entirely sure what to do with John's revelation that when a field is white for harvest that God will bring others to join in the labors of those who had been sowing the seed to gather in the fruit that is ready to pick. God will say, in effect, to people in that day, "If you knew that I was essential to you, did you worship me?" John 4:34-38 - Celebrate Life: Fields Ready for Harvest The firmament shows his handiwork. So they had written to Paul about it and he said to them, in effect, "Don't worry, your dead loved ones will make it. They follow the Lamb wherever he goes. In this case the terrible things that are happening on earth, all these distressing injustices, the cruelty, the anger, the hate, the malice, the sorrow, the hurt, the pain, the death that now prevails will go on forever. If you didn't know, Jesus and His disciples had left the Jerusalem area because the Pharisees had heard that they had been baptizing more disciples than even John the Baptist. What it says is, "There is a God and you cannot live without him. John is told to write this down as a special guarantee: "Blessed are the dead who die in the Lord from now on." To demonstrate that He was greater, Jesus revealed that He knew about the very things that she didn't really want anyone to know. Hear these words from his third chapter: Let the nations be roused;     let them advance into the Valley of Jehoshaphat [which means "God judges"],   for there will I sit     to judge all the nations on every side. But when a field is ready for harvest, you need all the workers you can get. They did not see the people as Jesus saw them because they were looking for the products they needed to survive. The last word of that Thessalonians passage is, "so shall we ever be with the Lord," (1 Thessalonians 4:17b KJV). They didn't want their people going back down to Jerusalem to worship, so they created their own temples, and their own priesthood, and combined their Jewish faith with aspects of other religious traditions from the area. You will notice the first harvest is a harvest of wheat. Our Father, we thank you for your wonderful word of truth. John reports that many Samaritans came to believe that Jesus was the Messiah because of the testimony of the woman alone, others came out to meet Jesus for themselves, and they ended up asking if Jesus would stay with them, which Jesus did. Pastor Doug teaches from John 4 on opening our eyes to see the people around us as Jesus saw the woman at the well. It is apparently a huge group. 13Then I heard a voice from heaven say, "Write: Blessed are the dead who die in the Lord from now on." "This calls for patient endurance on the part of the saints," a determination not to yield at any point or to give way to the glorification of man in that day. And we are having to deal with a lot of changes in our normal way of doing things. They follow the Lamb wherever he goes. They had not engaged anyone in the kind of conversation that Jesus had with the woman at the well. If they are the firstfruits, now comes the rest of the harvest: I looked, and there before me was a white cloud, and seated on the cloud was one "like a son of man" with a crown of gold on his head and a sharp sickle in his hand. But there is still another scene of harvest: Another angel came out of the temple in heaven, and he too had a sharp sickle. You don't have to be a farmer to appreciate the abundance that has been given to us over the past year, and how it will see us through the dark months of winter. It doesn’t matter how powerful Satan seems to have grown. She would not have had the best reputation in town, they point out, and coming at the sixth hour would be a way to avoid any unwanted judgmental stares or confrontations. Morning Worship. God does not want that, and neither does man. They were trampled in the winepress outside the city, and blood flowed out of the press, rising as high as the horses' bridles for a distance of 1,600 stadia [which is about 180 miles]. But apostate Israel is destroyed, and Jerusalem is sacked and partially destroyed. Related Media. THE POTENTIAL OF THE HARVEST JESUS SAID, “THE HARVEST TRULY IS PLENTEOUS, BUT THE LABOURERS ARE FEW” NOT TOO MUCH HAS CHANGED.....WE FACE THE SAME DIFFICULTIES THAT JESUS FACED TWO THOUSAND YEARS AGO. 12This calls for patient endurance on the part of the saints who obey God's commandments and remain faithful to Jesus. SERMON SUMMARY. We are not told who had prepared the Samaritans, only that they were ready to hear the gospel message. In trying to understand what Jesus was really talking about, she asked how Jesus planned on getting this "living water," since He had nothing with which to get it from Jacob's well. God's Word emphasizes it strongly. So, Jesus had to explain further that His "food was to do the will of the one who sent Him, and accomplish His work." The Lord himself will come, 'and the dead in Christ shall rise first, then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air, and so shall we ever be with the Lord,'" (1 Thessalonians 4:13-17). Who are "they"? I think Wesley probably underestimated, because in the 14th chapter of the book of Revelation, to which we come this morning, we read that Jesus chose not just 12, not even 100, but 144,000 men, and with that number he would to shake the world in the closing days of this age. While it is a delight to be the workers who come to a field that is ready for harvest, there is also a deep satisfaction in being the workers who prepare it by faithfully sowing God's Word and who, at the right time, will also get to join the harvest. The Harvest is Ready (Video) Notes. That results in terrible torment of godlessness. This study will also lead us to consider how God used an "outside group," the Samaritans, to teach an "inside group," the rest of the Jewish nation, more about what it really means to be His people. According to this passage, the angel announces this is a fatal choice. If God is necessary to us, then to take him out of our lives is to plunge us into the most terrible sense of loneliness and abandonment that mankind can know. As the words of Psalm 19 proclaim, "The heavens declare the glory of God. But the Samaritans were in the middle. It is exactly the same problem that the Thessalonian Christians faced when Paul wrote his first letter to them. But someone else had prepared the people of Samaria. To harvest you garden, you have to go to where the harvest is. "He told them, 'The harvest is plentiful, but the workers are few.'" the gospel of ST JOHN • Sermon • Submitted 2 years ago They (His disciples) had been the ones who had previously preached in the cities of Galilee, preparing them to receive Jesus as the Messiah. It is because the saints of that day it will feel as if they have missed the resurrection! Five Laws of the Harvest Adrian Rogers Mark 4:26 We've been studying in the gospel of Mark. (Revelation 14:17-20). The church is with him, but invisible to the rest of the world, and ministering to this select group of 144,000 Jews as Jesus appears to them from time to time. (preached at St. John's UMC on 7/7/13) Luke 10.1-11 After this the Lord appointed seventy others and sent them on ahead of him in pairs to every town and place where he himself intended to go. Will you give yourself to me?" It is the fundamental cry of nature. Matthew Joseph Morris. In the great faith chapter in Hebrews 11, the writer says in Verse 6, "He who comes to God must believe that he is and that he is a rewarder of those who diligently seek him," Hebrews 11:6 KJV). These are very clear words from the lips of Jesus himself. Surely, what the 144,000 hear is the church as it is "with the Lord," singing his praises and singing the song of the redeemed! In the parable, the servants had asked the Lord, "Shall we pull up these weeds?" He also told them, "I send you as lambs into the midst of wolves" (Luke 10:2-3) They thought that when their loved ones died they would miss the rapture because they saw that event in terms of catching up or snatching away living saints. Her past and present choices. Now, because of time, we are going faster, all right? Luke 10:2 And He told them, "The harvest is plentiful, but the workers are few. Our worship is not about location, but about knowing the truth about ourselves and about God. But it was a sweet sound -- "like that of harpists playing their harps." Jesus says, "Blessed," okay? That is the third thing said of them. I think back to Stephen Grellet, with his apparently pointless sermon to an empty wooden hut out in the backwoods. But when we return home, we go back to being seen as little Suzie or Johnny. Now, once again in the midst of this bleak scene, the saints of that day are encouraged: This calls for patient endurance on the part of the saints who obey God's commandments and remain faithful to Jesus. In this sermon outline we share the importance of the harvest and the need for all of the church to be involved in the harvest of these last days. As I read these prophetic passages I am more and more convinced that this will be the case -- the church is with the Lord, but the Lord is on earth during the whole last seven years. He had to be hungry. On another occasion Jesus said to his followers, "Open your eyes and look at the fields! And they sang a new song before the throne and before the four living creatures and the elders. Joel 3: 13, 14 Put in the sickle, for the harvest is ripe. An already known quantity. To do the will of God Now let us look at the characteristics of these 144,000. To those saints who are on earth after that, it will raise the troubling thought that when they die, they are not sure that they will be included in the resurrection, for it is already past. God in love pleads with people, "Do not go on to this end!" It was Henry David Thoreau who said, "If a man does not keep pace with his companions, perhaps it is because he hears a different drummer." And she became very interested. You think by him." He has been providing us with all that we need, and opening up opportunities for us to share our faith and trust in Him. They, too, shall rest from their labor, and their deeds will follow them." And so, they returned from the city with a hunger the sort of food they found could satisfy. They are free to do so without any ties with anyone else because they were called to a dangerous and demanding work and needed to be unencumbered in following the Lamb wherever he went. I want to try and put some loose ends together here. The field in which we labor is Los Alamos. But Jesus was there, and he spoke to her, asking if she would give Him a drink from the water she drew. The fifth thing that is said about these is they are transformed men. John Wesley once said, "Give me a hundred men who love nothing but God and hate nothing but sin, and I will shake the whole world for Christ." This unlikely woman saw the harvest, and she brought it back to the Savior. We will see another aspect of that when we come to Verses 14-16 of this chapter. Strangely, most of the present nation of Israel does not believe their own Scriptures. We learned in the first section that the 144,000 from the tribes of Israel are the "firstfruits" of the harvest of the last days. (Revelation 14:1-5 NIV). Grapes are thrown into the winepress (that is a symbol), but blood pours out -- that is the literal meaning of pressed grapes or wine. As Matt Redman sings, “Time is so short, we can not squander this love”. Prayer: God, we long for that day when Los Alamos is ripe for harvest. They will also realize the harvest is more than what one man or woman can do. Go your way;” Luke 10:2-3 in the Holy Bible. There is no rest day or night for those who worship the beast and his image, or for anyone who receives the mark of his name." A Sermon Delivered on Sunday Evening, July 29, 1866, by C. H. Spurgeon, at the Metropolitan Tabernacle, Newington. The sound I heard was like that of harpists playing their harps. There have been a lot of demands upon us in regard to protecting ourselves from the spread of this virus, some of which we are okay with and others we are not. As we have seen, the angels will separate the two. He said in a loud voice, "Fear God and give him glory, because the hour of his judgment has come. It will move onto center stage in Chapters 17 and 18. (Revelation 14:8 NIV). There is no rest day or night for those who worship the beast and his image, or for anyone who receives the mark of his name." Then a third angel speaks: A third angel followed them and said in a loud voice: "If anyone worships the beast and his image and receives his mark on the forehead or on the hand, he, too, will drink of the wine of God's fury, which has been poured full strength into the cup of his wrath. But she was still leery of Jesus, all that proved was that He was some sort of a prophet. Despite all the "wrong stuff" she certainly believed because she grew up Samaritan; she rightly believed that this new lease on life would only be possible when the promised Messiah arrived. John said that many people in Galilee received Him as Christ when they arrived. Therefore, third, the only choice God really has is that he must withdraw ultimately from those who refuse his love. It is a reference to what these 144,000 would do. But all through the Bible you see that God's love is manifest to men everywhere in urging them to escape this judgment. This becomes the basis for the ultimate judgment of mankind. But she was skeptical, and not quite sure whether He is talking about something that quenches the bodies' thirst or that of the soul. Paul rings the changes on this in Romans 1, in the words, "What may be known about God is plain to them," (Romans 1:19 NIV). (Revelation 14:6-7 NIV). 9A third angel followed them and said in a loud voice: "If anyone worships the beast and his image and receives his mark on the forehead or on the hand, 10he, too, will drink of the wine of God's fury, which has been poured full strength into the cup of his wrath. The church has already been taken out of the world, some by resurrection and some by transformation, and these believers know this. He likened it to living water. If you can put that scene into your imagination you will get a much clearer picture of what is going on in these scenes. They are separated unto the Lord to be his, just as the Apostle Paul was. I get the feeling that Jesus had intentionally sent His disciples into the city to "reap" from the labors of others. This is what is often called "hellfire and brimstone" preaching. He has been with us each moment of every day. He said to them, “The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few; therefore ask the Lord of the… It is the witness that no one can miss because it is manifest all around us. Matthew 9:37,38. He said to His disciples, "Lift up your eyes and look at the fields, for they are already white for harvest!" He was from Nazareth, and they knew that nothing good comes from there. We may go off and accomplish great things, learn skills, and become successful in some profession. Notice, by the way, in Verse 20, the change from a symbol to the literal meaning. I hope that you begin to see the people around you as Jesus saw the woman at the well. His brothers and sisters were also known to them. God's Word emphasizes it strongly. But he said to them, "No, let both grow together until the harvest, and then I will tell the harvester, 'First collect the weeds and tie them in bundles to be burned, and then gather the wheat and bring it into my barn.'" No. THE HARVEST IS RIPE AND READY! God is always asking, "If you know that I am the One who is necessary to your very existence, do you worship me? But, Jesus' disciples missed the opportunity to enter into the harvest when they entered into the city. There has been civil unrest which in which property has been destroyed and people killed, as their anger has been openly expressed toward the people and institutions they accuse of injustice. But I hope that the disciples learned the lesson from their Samaritan experience, that God is a work among those we may not consider worthy, preparing them to receive His offer of love, through someone else. 18Still another angel, who had charge of the fire, came from the altar and called in a loud voice to him who had the sharp sickle, "Take your sharp sickle and gather the clusters of grapes from the earth's vine, because its grapes are ripe." To seek and save the lost That has always been true, but there is a special reason why John is told to add the words, "from now on." She immediately ran back into the city, perhaps even running past the disciples who were by then making their way back to Jesus, to invite everyone who would listen to come out to the well and met the man who she now believed was the Christ. Jesus took that opportunity to speak to her a little more about what He could offer her. Part 3 of the Bible by its Greek name, sermons on harvest is ready any doubt: is...
